Did I already lose you before I even started? Why does literally NO ONE want to journal? 🤷♀️ I knew all the benefits of journaling and I still actively avoided it for YEARS!!!
You too?!? Let’s figure out what’s stopping you…
Don’t have time? Don’t want to deal with those crazy thoughts in your head? Maybe journaling reminds you of a boy-crazy teenager keeping a diary? Worried about thinking about the past? Don’t like your handwriting? Whatever the reason, give me a few minutes to see if I can change your mind 😉
RELEASE YOUR EXPECTATIONS. First, journaling can be ANYTHING! You can write down what you are thinking or feeling, write down your to-do list, how you see your day going or just why you are such a badass! If you are thinking you have to do it a certain way…well, you’re wrong! Journaling is personal and it’s how you want to do it. But getting into the habit of writing is so helpful for your mindset and mental health.
USE PROMPTS. If you don’t think you will know what to write, use journal prompts. I have created these prompts to help you get started. You will be amazed at what comes up for you, even when you use prompts.
TYPE (like, on a keyboard 💻). I know not many people will agree with me, but if you have to type your journal, then do it! I actually prefer typing because I get all “neat-freaky” and “perfectionistic” when I start writing and I end up erasing more than I write (yes, I have erasable pens!). And guess what? It works. Listen, I don’t care how you get the information out of your mind (etch it, for all I care!) – I just want you in the habit of writing!
SET TIMER. Don’t tell me you don’t have time for journaling if it only takes 1 minute of your day. Eventually, it would be helpful to obviously increase that time, but 1 minute a day is literally 0.007% of your whole entire day (yes, I actually did the math to prove my point!) so take that small amount of time for YOU. You deserve it.
To recap: I am telling you there is no wrong way to journal AND I gave you prompts to start AND you have permission to type your journal vs. writing (if you prefer) AND you now know you only have to journal for 1 whole minute…so why in the heck aren’t you journaling already?
At the risk of sounding bossy:
GO DO IT!!
And come back and let me know how it’s working for you. It truly is a wonderful gift to give yourself 💕
